‘J&K’ end may be near

The huge loss of viewers could spell the end of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” says Kate Gosselin.

“With ratings falling, this might be the last season of ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8.’ I’m not sure yet,” Kate wrote on her Facebook page.

The numbers have been sliding steadily since June when Jon and Kate announced their divorce, an episode seen by a record 10.6 million viewers.

The show came back from a six-week break — ostensibly to let the couple work things out — on Aug. 3, but only 4.2 million viewers tuned in to see it.

The numbers have been dropping off steadily since then, finishing at a low of 1.7 million last Monday.

Even if the cable series goes away, this might not be the end of a TV career for either Gosselin.

Kate, fresh off a guest stint as a co-host on “The View,” recently spent time in New York shooting a talk show pilot with celebrity chef and Food Network star Paula Deen.

Deen has had a deal with Telepictures, the powerhouse behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show” to develop a show with a format like “The View,” but potentially targeted to moms.

Meanwhile, Jon, whose new single behavior is allegedly displeasing cable network TLC, has been shopping himself around for reality shows, such as Michael Lohan’s “Divorced Dads Club” series.
