‘Girls’ sheds viewers in second-season finale on HBO

The second-season finale of HBO’s “Girls” was way down from last season’s finale numbers.

Sunday night’s episode averaged 630,000 viewers at 9 p.m. — down a whopping 37 percent from last season’s finale, which snared 1 million viewers, and down nearly 30 percent from January’s second-season premiere.

That being said, you’d be hard-pressed to find many New Yorkers who actually watch “Girls” as it airs live — and Sunday’s season-ender will likely add a chunk of viewers who recorded it via DVR so they could watch it later.

For its second season, “Girls,” starring Lena Dunham and Allison Williams, grossed nearly 5 million viewers, in total, who watched it on HBO On Demand and other streaming services.

That’s on par with with the show’s gross average viewing audience from its first season.
