Mets’ Reyes aces Florida test

Jose Reyes’ rehab continued in Florida last night, as the Mets shortstop played all nine innings in the field in an extended spring-training game against St. Lucie. He went 2-for-5 with two singles, two walks and a run in seven plate appearances.

Coming back from a thyroid condition, he is eligible to come off the 15-day DL on Saturday, but GM Omar Minaya said, “We have to see how he does.”

The Mets had a record number of players on their Opening Day roster who were born outside the 50 U.S. states.

Those 18 players on the Mets’ 25-man roster or disabled list nearly double the next-highest team total of 10, found on five clubs, MLB said. The previous high was 16 on the 2005 Nats.

Over all, MLB said, 27.7 percent of the 833 major-leaguers were born outside the 50 states. The high occurred in 2005, when 29.2 percent of players on Opening Day were born outside the 50 states.
