Badgers bounce Wolverines in Big Ten

Dez Wells scored a career-high 30 points and Maryland upset No. 2 Duke 83-74 last night in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

Wells was 9 of 13 from the field and 10 of 10 from the free throw line to lead the seventh-seeded Terrapins (22-11).

They never trailed, held Duke to 4-of-25 shooting from 3-point range, and bolstered their NCAA Tournament credentials with their second straight win over Duke.

Mason Plumlee had 19 points to lead second-seeded Duke (27-5).

Miami 69, Boston College 58

Shane Larkin scored 20 points and No. 9 Miami pulled away to win its ACC quarterfinal. Kenny Kadji added 15 points for the top-seeded Hurricanes (25-6).

N.C. State 75, Virginia 56

Scott Wood had 23 points and seven 3-pointers to help fifth-seeded North Carolina State (24-9) advance.

UNC 83, Florida St. 62

P.J. Hairston scored 21 points to help North Carolina (23-9) beat Florida State.

Big Ten

Wisconsin 68, Michigan 59

In Chicago, Ben Brust scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half and fifth-seeded Wisconsin knocked off fourth-seeded Michigan to reach the Big Ten tournament semifinals.

Traevon Jackson had 16 points for the Badgers (22-10), who will play Indiana today. Trey Burke had 19 points and seven assists for No. 6 Michigan (26-7).

Indiana 80, Illinois 64

Cody Zeller scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead top-seeded Indiana (27-5). Victor Oladipo added 12 points and 11 rebounds and drew the loudest cheers with a 360-degree fastbreak dunk with 90 seconds left.

Michigan State 59, Iowa 56

Adreian Payne had 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading Michigan State to a victory. Keith Appling and Gary Harris had 13 points apiece for the Spartans (25-7), who trailed by 12 midway through the second half. They advance to play Ohio State.

Ohio State 71, Nebraska 50

DeShaun Thomas and Sam Thompson had 19 points apiece, helping second seed Ohio State (24-7) to a quarterfinal rout.

Big 12

Kansas 88, Iowa State 73

In Kansas City, Mo., Perry Ellis scored a career-high 23 points, and top-seeded Kansas pulled away to reach the Big 12 tournament title game. Jeff Withey and Elijah Johnson added 14 points each, and Ben McLemore finished with 10 for the Jayhawks (28-5). The Jayhawks will face Oklahoma State (24-8), 68-57 winners over Kansas State.

Pac-12

UCLA 66, Arizona 64

In Las Vegas, Jordan Adams scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half and top-seeded UCLA (25-8) beat Arizona for the third time this season to move on to the Pac-12 tournament championship game. The Bruins will tangle with Oregon (25-8), which rolled past Utah, 64-45.

Conference USA

Memphis 85, Tulsa 74

In Tulsa, Okla., Chris Crawford scored 30 points while connecting on eight 3-pointers to set new career highs in both categories, D.J. Stephens had 10 points and 10 rebounds after attending his grandmother’s funeral earlier in the day and top-seeded Memphis (29-4) reached the Conference USA championship. The Tigers will face No. 2 seed Southern Mississippi, which set aside UTEP, 85-67.
