Longest-serving SUNY president to retire in 2014

The longest-serving president in the 64-campus State University of New York system will retire next year.

SUNY Geneseo announced this week that President Christopher Dahl will begin a nine-month sabbatical from the western New York college this October, and then formally retire in June of 2014.

Dahl is 66 and has been president at the college for more than 18 years.

The campus is 25 miles south of Rochester in Livingston County.

Dahl has recommended that SUNY Geneseo Provost Carol Long be appointed interim president. Long came to Geneseo from Oregon’s Willamette University in 2009.

Dahl, who’s also a professor of English at Geneseo, was named president in early 1996 after serving eight months as interim president. The college says he’s the longest-serving president in the SUNY system.
