Michael Phelps plans to go into early retirement.

The 14-time gold medalist expects to make the 2012 Olympics in London his last and is looking to quit the sport completely when he turns 30 three years later.

“I told myself I will not swim over the age of 30 and I will not,” Phelps told BBC Sports.

He said he wasn’t sure how many swimming events he’ll enter in 2012.
