Former city hoop stars arraigned on robbery charges

Kevin Phillip and Jamie Harris, the Drexel University basketball players from New York City accused of breaking into a fellow student’s apartment last week with guns intending to commit a robbery, were arraigned Tuesday and released on $50,000 bail.

They face charges of conspiracy, burglary, criminal trespassing, robbery, gun possession, and assault, Harris’ lawyer, Robert T. Lynch said. The two could face from five to 10 years in prison, if found guilty on all counts. The 21-year-olds, who turned themselves in Monday morning, will be in court next on Aug. 11 in Philadelphia for a preliminary hearing, when the district attorney will present its case. A third Drexel student, Devon Bond, was arrested last Thursday and also charged.

“We’re waiting for our day in court,” said Lynch, who is representing Harris along with Gregory J. Pagano. “The evidence will show the accusations to be untrue.”

Phillip attended Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn while Harris starred at Wings Academy in The Bronx and led Drexel in scoring last year. The two, in addition to Bond, allegedly broke into the west Philadelphia apartment last Wednesday evening looking for money, but left with two cell phones instead.
