Delgado works out for Red Sox at Yankee Stadium

Carlos Delgado worked out for the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Friday, agent David Sloane told The Post.

The former Mets first baseman, who is rehabbing from hip surgery he had in February, has been out all season, but Sloane said Delgado has worked out for multiple teams and declared he’s coming along extremely well physically.

The Red Sox are looking at Delgado to check out their available options, The Post has learned. With Kevin Youkilis out for the rest of the season, Boston views Delgado as a left-handed counterpart to replacement first baseman Mike Lowell, a right-handed hitter.

Delgado, who turned 38 in June and has been rehabbing in Long Island, would not only afford the Red Sox another option at first base – and possibly DH – but would also bring another New York twist to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, having played with the Mets from 2006 through last season. He has some familiarity with the AL East, having played the majority of his career with the Blue Jays.

Red Sox center fielder Mike Cameron mentioned that Delgado has not played in a long time but said, “Obviously the experience and the nature of the person – if he is healthy, he can help 29 other teams, other than St. Louis” – who has Albert Pujols at first base – “and probably these guys over here,” meaning the Yankees, who have Mark Teixeira at first base.

Lowell, who was at first base against Yankees righty Javier Vazquez, was 2-for-8 with a homer since returning from the disabled list Tuesday.
