Flatbush Avenue will still lose a lane of traffic around the future home of the Brooklyn Nets, but the work won’t begin until Aug. 20, the state announced this week.
The revised date pushes back the construction from Aug. 1, as previously announced by the Empire State Development Corporation and Forest City Ratner, which are partners in the development of the Barclays Center basketball arena.
No reason was given for the new start date for an 18-month-long project that will convert six-lane Flatbush Avenue in a five-lane road between Atlantic Avenue and Dean Street to make room for work on underground subway structures.
The center lane will run southbound — except during the morning rush hour, when it will be flipped to carry the larger volume of Manhattan Bridge-bound cars.
