Mike Francesa’s next target? Carrie Underwood

Every Sunday, at approximately 8:20 p.m., the refrain is sung loud and clear on NBC by Carrie Underwood as the lead-in to the Sunday night NFL game: “I’ve been waiting all day for Sunday night…”

WFAN host Mike Francesa vehemently disagrees with that statement, to put it mildly.

“This idea of ‘We waited all day’, well, that’s the stupidest song that ever was created!” Francesa ranted during a 30-second monologue on his drive-time show Wednesday. “No one waits all day. They watch football all day! … No one waited one minute for Sunday night, they watched football all darn day! That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in the lyrics!”

The NBC theme song has the same melody as the Joan Jett song, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” This is Underwood’s first season singing the Sunday Night theme song, as she replaced Faith Hill, who was the singer from 2007 to 2012. Pink was the singer for NBC’s first season producing Sunday Night football, in 2006.
