Actor George Clooney contracts malaria following Sudan trip

Actor George Clooney is reportedly stricken with malaria following a trip to the Sudan earlier this month.

The actor is “feeling rough,” said Piers Morgan, who features the actor on his CNN show Friday night.

“It’s his second bout of malaria,” Morgan wrote. “Taking medication but feeling rough.”

Clooney, 49, has frequently traveled to Sudan and the war-torn region of Darfur in an effort to bring awareness to the possibility of another bloody conflict as the country is positioned to split itself into two.

In a statement, the “Ocean’s Eleven” star said, “This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to bad ten days instead of a death sentence.”

Clooney’s rep Stan Rosenfield told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor contracted the disease during a trip three weeks ago.

Clooney’s CNN appearance with Morgan was taped on Jan. 13.
