Create your perfect New Year’s Day TV marathon

Whether you went a little too hard on the champagne Tuesday night or are just looking to veg out on your day off work, New Year’s Day is a great time to celebrate that most American of traditions — parking it in front of the tube.

If you’re not a fan of college football and its numerous bowl games being played today, there are plenty of marathons of current and classic TV shows across the dial to keep you entertained well into the night. Happy 2014!

“The Walking Dead” What better way to celebrate the beginning of a new year than with a zombie apocalypse? AMC started marathoning every episode of the hit drama in chronological order on New Year’s Eve; Season Three starts at 5 a.m.; Season Four starts at 9 p.m.

“The Twilight Zone” Syfy brings back its annual tradition for the 19th time with a marathon of the Rod Serling genre classic starting at 8 a.m. and airing through 5 a.m. Thursday.

“Dance Moms” Lifetime airs an all-day marathon beginning at 8 a.m. of this reality series featuring demanding dance teacher Abby Lee Miller and her pint-sized pupils leading into the Season Four premiere at 9 p.m.

“The Hangover” Knocked back one (or three) too many last night? TBS will appropriately show the 2009 blockbuster hit four times in a row starting at 11 a.m. and running to 8 p.m.

“The Tudors” Before Jonathan Rhys Meyers was a blood-sucking vampire on NBC’s “Dracula,” he was bedding maidens as King Henry VIII in this sexy Showtime period drama, which BBC America will air starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday and running to 3 a.m. Thursday.

“The Honeymooners” makes its annual “marathon” appearance on WPIX, a Ch. 11 tradition since 1976 (it moved to New Year’s Eve in 1996). Though the station aired the first of 26 episodes starting at 11 p.m. Dec. 31, the classic sitcom resumes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

“Watch What Happens Live” Mazel! Bravo is gifting Andy Cohen fans with a clubhouse marathon to start 2014, beginning at 6 a.m. and going until 3 p.m.

“Happy Endings” It lives! The whip-smart comedy may have been tragically canceled by ABC last season, but all 57 episodes return for a marathon on VH1 through 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

“Futurama” may have aired its final new episode on Comedy Central last September, but in the world of TV syndication, it’s never really goodbye — the network will marathon the sci-fi cartoon beginning at 11:30 a.m.

“NCIS” It’s got to be TV’s most-watched drama for a reason. Get sucked into the world of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service with a marathon on USA Network starting at 6 a.m.

“Cops Reloaded” CMT showcases newly-edited episodes of the long-running reality show with a marathon beginning at noon featuring the best criminals and car chases.

“For Better or Worse” Tyler Perry’s ubiquity continues with an eight-hour marathon of episodes from the sitcom’s first two seasons starting at 4 p.m. on OWN.

“Looney Tunes” Cartoon Network mixes episodes of its new show featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the rest of the crew with the classic “Looney Tunes” shorts in a marathon from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
