‘Cancer fake’ plea

A Long Island woman accused of faking cancer and seeking donations to support a drug habit pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and other charges yesterday.

Brittany Ozarowski, 21, formerly of Selden, was in court in Central Islip. Her bail was set at $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond.

Authorities claim she placed donation jars with a picture of her in a wheelchair at businesses in Nassau and Suffolk counties and hit up supermarket shoppers for money she then used on drugs.

Her grandma even sold her own Selden home and gave Ozarowski $100,000 for what turned out to be phantom treatments at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota has said.

The indictment was unsealed Wednesday. Four other cases against her are pending, said Suffolk prosecutor Michelle Pitman.

In objecting to the prosecution’s request for high bail, defense attorney George Duncan noted that his client was not accused of any violent crime.
