Baseball ‘hit’ parade on 42nd St.

Baseball’s brightest stars will parade along 42nd Street hours before the Midsummer Classic at Citi Field in July, officials announced yesterday.

Mayor Bloomberg — joined by Mets third baseman David Wright and former Amazin’s stars Edgardo Alfonzo, John Franco and Mookie Wilson — urged New Yorkers to join in the All-Star events leading up to the July 16 parade and game.

“This is just going to be something wonderful for New York City,” Bloomberg said.

The mayor estimated that the game and accompanying events would pump $191 million into the local economy and draw 176,000 visitors to town.

Major League Baseball expects the game to draw 30 million viewers on TV.

“That’s the kind of positive media exposure money can’t buy,” Bloomberg said.

The 2013 All-Star Game players and their families are scheduled to begin their parade at Bryant Park on West 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue at 1 p.m., and head east on an 80,000-square-foot red carpet.

The parade will pass Grand Central Terminal and end on East 42nd between Second and Third avenues. Participants will travel in top-down Chevy convertibles.

“Baseball is in the blood of New Yorkers. If I had to vote, I’d have the All-Star Game here every year,” Wright said.

“It’s revved up. There’s nothing comparable to playing in an All-Star Game in New York.”

In addition to the game and parade, the All-Star Game FanFest is set for July 12-16 at the Javits Center.

Other events at Citi Field include a celeb softball game on July 14; the All-Star Futures Game, featuring up-and-coming minor leaguers, on July 14; and the All-Star Game workout and Home Run Derby on July 15.
