Twinkies to hit store shelves in late July

Break open your secret stash, Twinkies are back!

The beloved cream-filled sponge cake treats are returning to store shelves in late July, according to NBC News.

“We expect to be making and selling in July,” Michael Cramer, executive vice president of Hostess Brands LLC said.

“Probably the later half of the month before the products hit the stores.”

The timeless American snack was thought to have died in November when Hostess Brands, Inc., shut down all operations after a protracted dispute with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

The dispute forced the company to sell off its assets, with the most famous Hostess Snacks — Twinkies, Cup Cakes, Ho Hos, Zingers, Ding Dongs and Suzy Q’s — being snapped up for $410M by hedge funds Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. earlier this month.

Now under new management, the old Hostess bakery in Columbus, Georgia is being re-launched with the company planning on hiring 200 non-union workers.

“We’re sure not going to invite the unions in. We don’t have to do it,” Cramer said.

Along with Twinkies, Hostess Donettes will be the first products off the line with other products returning in August and September.
