Channing Tatum leads a group of well-toned actors in the hotly-anticipated “Magic Mike.” The movie, which Tatum also produced, was reportedly inspired by his brief career as a male stripper before he turned to acting. “Magic Mike” is Tatum’s third starring role this year, and the previous 2012 releases he fronted box-office blockbusters. Tatum and future wife Jenna Dewan danced and fell in love on- and off-screen in 2006’s “Step Up.” Tatum’s troublemaker and Dewan’s trained dancer grow closer after they team up onstage. The movie was a critical disappointment but made $114.2 million on a $12 million budget, spawning three sequels. Tatum reprised his role in the first sequel, 2008’s “Step Up 2 The Streets.” Here, he and Dewan share a laugh as they attend the Los Angeles premiere of the first film. Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com

Tatum played Duke in the first “G.I. Joe” movie “The Rise of Cobra.” The movie was panned by critics but earned roughly twice its budget in worldwide ticket sales. A sequel was originally set to be released the same day as “Magic Mike,” but was bumped to March 2013 for a 3-D conversion and to expand the storyline of (guess who?) Channing Tatum. Frank Masi
