Cold-case slay DNA match the result of lab contamination: sources

Lab contamination may have led to the DNA match between evidence from the 2004 murder of Juilliard student Sarah Fox and a chain abandoned at an Occupy Wall Street protest in March, sources told The Post.

The genetic material on a CD player found near Fox’s body and on the chain — left at a protest at a Brooklyn subway station — matched because a lab worker had been in contact with both items, three sources told The Post.

But Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said the DNA of all its employees has been ruled out, and that the DNA was still being investigated.

In any case, the DNA does not match that of the top suspect in the case, Dimitry Sheinman.
