Father of Connecticut Christmas fire children sues ex-wife’s contractor-boyfriend

The dad of three girls who died in the tragic Christmas Day fire in Connecticut has slapped their mom’s contractor-boyfriend with a lawsuit over the fatal blaze.

The suit by Matthew Badger claims that Michael Borcina performed shoddy renovations on the stately Stamford Victorian mansion of girlfriend Madonna Badger.

“No smoke detectors or fire alarms alerted them to the fire,” the suit says. “The girls died before they could escape the home, which had become a firetrap as a result of months of substandard construction leading up to the fire.”

The blaze took the lives of Matthew and Madonna Badger’s daughters, Lily, 9, and 7-year-old twins Sarah and Grace. Madonna Badger’s parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson, also died in the fire.

Borcina was at the home at the time, but made it out alive along with Madonna, who is Matthew’s ex-wife.

Authorities say that the blaze began in the home’s mudroom, where Borcina left a paper bag full of ashes from the fireplace after he cleaned it out at 3:30 a.m.

“Borcina appears to have been negligent and, likely, reckless in the way he undertook to renovate the house without connecting the alarms,” Matthew Badger’s lawyer, Richard Emery, told The Post.

“He certainly was reckless in putting the ashes in the mudroom. So he has to be accountable for three beautiful children’s lives, along with Stamford and many others who caused this tragedy.”

The suit also names the city of Stamford and other contractors who worked on the house, the Stamford Advocate reported.
