Lincoln Tunnel’s new lights will save energy

The Port Authority will save $283,000 annually with the new energy-efficient lights it has installed in the Lincoln Tunnel, agency officials said Wednesday.

The 2,300 45-watt LED lights, which cost $2.1 million to install, will reduce electricity use by an estimated 1.2 million kilowatt-hours a year, the PA said.

Some 42 million drivers travel through the tunnel each year, it said.

The PA installed more than 3,000 LED lights in the Holland Tunnel last year, resulting in an annual savings of $250,000.
