Suspect in Bx. hit-run death tells cops, ‘It was probably me’

The suspect in a drunken hit-and-run death in The Bronx told cops after his arrest, “If you’re looking for someone who hit someone it was probably me,” prosecutors said yesterday.

Richard Haberman, 37, a contractor from Armonk, also allegedly admitted after his arrest early Saturday that he’d been drinking and smoking pot. “He was unable to stand on his own,” said Assistant DA Joseph Scolavino.

A disheveled Haberman — who had a blood-alcohol level of .234 after the accident, in which one man died and another was critically injured — was held without bail at his arraignment on charges including vehicular homicide.

He killed Juan Rivera-Quintera, 42, and injured an unidentified man as they crossed Grand Concourse near East 170th Street at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Haberman then sped through several red lights — before slamming into the ambulance dispatched to the scene for his victims, prosecutors said.
