Miracle baby born in crosswalk heads home

The baby born in an Upper East Side crosswalk arrived home from a hospital safe and sound Wednesday — and her mom says she already has some real New York attitude.

“They say she’s a miracle baby, but I think she’s a trouble baby,” said mom Polly McCourt, referring to little Ila Isabelle.

“She’s trouble with a capital ‘T.’ I mean, she’s already started, hasn’t she?”

McCourt, 39, was frantically trying to get to the hospital Monday afternoon when she realized she was going into labor at East 68th Street and Third Avenue.

She gave birth to a healthy 7-pound, 15-ounce baby girl smack-dab in the middle of the street as dozens of witnesses looked on.

“She’s my smallest,” said McCourt, who also has a 5-year-old son, Conor, and a 4-year-old daughter, Adele.

She and her husband, Cian, returned home from Lenox Hill Hospital Wednesday beaming with baby in tow before giving doorman Anton Rudovic a huge hug for his part in aiding the birth.

Rudovic dashed away from his post to flag down a cab for McCourt before the baby started crowning.

When it became clear that she wasn’t going to wait, he knelt behind the woman, supporting her as she gave birth.

“He’s not supposed to be more than five meters from the foyer, so I have to apologize to management because he saw I was in trouble and walked me right to the corner of the street,” Polly McCourt said.

“I was very, very lucky,” she said.

She admitted that she was drained after the whole affair as the couple returned to their East 68th Street building. “[Ila] is faring better than me at the moment,” she said.

A young woman named Isabel Williams ran over and wrapped the infant in her coat before Polly was rushed to the hospital.

The McCourts said they are looking forward to meeting the good Samaritan, to whom they felt so indebted, they named little Ila Isabelle after her.

“Basically, Ila was always the name and Isabelle is the lady who gave her coat to warm us,” Polly said.
Williams said she was honored to help and said she, too, can’t wait to meet the couple.

“I got that coat at Goodwill. It was $40, so it’s fine,” Williams told Fox 5 Wednesday. “I don’t even know how to express how touched I am. That’s just the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to me.”
