Feds ask judge: Say no, Pedro

Federal prosecutors yesterday urged a judge to reject a request for a new trial by former state Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr.

The feds say Espada’s move to interview two jurors who sat on his embezzlement trial last year was nothing but an ill-advised probe that failed to produce proof of injustice.

“This entire episode evidences the defendant’s . . . inability come to terms with the finality of his ignominious fall from power,” Brooklyn federal prosecutors Todd Kaminsky and Carolyn Pokorny wrote.

Today, Espada will appear in court to try to persuade Judge Frederic Block to grant him a new trial.

Last year, the Bronx Democrat was convicted of misusing his government-subsidized health-care firm to pay personal expenses. He is facing up to 43 years in prison.
