Two NJ children fall from window

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — Two children are hospitalized after they fell from a second-floor window in their northern New Jersey apartment building.

The 5-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother were playing in their bedroom when they saw a friend outside and tried to get his attention Tuesday night.

North Bergen Deputy Police Chief Gerald Sanzari tells The Record newspaper the children fell through the screen and landed on the concrete walkway 22 feet below.

The boy is in critical condition and his sister is in serious but stable condition at University Hospital in Newark.

Sanzari says the children’s parents were not in the room.

Sanzari says the apartment was not air-conditioned and the only thing between the children and the ground was the screen. There were no child guards on the window.
