A “Sharknado” is headed for New York!

Syfy announced this morning that it’s greenlit “Sharknado 2,” this time with great whites taking a bite out of Big Apple.

“Sharknado” stirred up a Twitter frenzy last week, leading to a modest audience of 1.4 million viewers for the campy, made-for-TV natural disaster flick.

“American Pie” alum Tara Reid and “Beverly Hills 90210” actor Ian Ziering fought a great white invasion in Los Angeles, when wild weather brought the ocean predators to shore.

“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television,” said Thomas Vitale, SyFy vice president of programming and original programming.

“The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that ‘Sharknado 2’ will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”

For those who missed this not-so-classic movie last week, it’ll re-air on SyFy at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

“Sharknado 2” is set to invade New York in 2014.
