Mira Sorvino’s new role a ‘Psych’ test

Oscar winning actress Mira Sorvino — who’s done a handful of TV roles dating back to playing Marilyn Monroe in the 1996 HBO drama “Norma Jean & Marilyn” — has been cast in USA’s comedy series “Psych” for the show’s upcoming eighth season.

The Hollywood Reporter says Sorvino will co-star with Dule Hill and James Roday in a multi-episode arc as Betsy Brannigan, a vivacious yet hard-boiled detective with the Santa Barbara Police Department who burns off steam from dealing with a life of crime with some serious hobbies like making scrapbooks.

To round out this portrait of eccentricity, Betsy also has cats.

Sorvino won Best Supporting Actress for the 1995 Woody Allen film “Mighty Aphrodite.” Her most recent TV appearances were in last year’s holiday film “Finding Mrs. Claus” and “Trooper,” the USA movie about a mom who becomes a state trooper.
