On paper, a collaboration between Jay Z and Daft Punk should be the stuff of dreams, but as it turns out, the newly uncovered track “Computerized” has turned out to be as exciting as a mid-afternoon nap.
During the 4-and-a-half-minute track, the French duo do an underwhelming Kraftwerk impression as Hova spins clichéd verses about the cold and impersonal nature of modern technology. As a result, “Computerized” sounds like it was Skyped in.
The song emerged when a Daft Punk fansite posted it on Monday, and despite initial questions over whether “Computerized” was fake, Pitchfork.com has confirmed that it is genuine.
Details about when the track was recorded are unknown, but Daft Punk did use a sample from “Computerized” on their soundtrack to the 2010 film “Tron: Legacy,” so the recording could potentially date from those sessions. But it seems like it was unreleased for a pretty good reason.
