Miley Cyrus smokes blunt on stage at music awards

Just when you thought Miley couldn’t possibly have any more stunts up her sleeve, she pulls a blunt out of her purse.

Last night at the MTV EMAs in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the 20-year-old one-woman wrecking ball stunned the crowd and the viewing audience of millions by celebrating her “Best Video” award by taking out a joint from her purse and lighting up. The gesture was a nod to marijuana’s semi-legal status in the host country (possession of small amounts does not lead to arrest), but the act was nevertheless too hot to handle for MTV America who edited the entire sequence out of their delayed telecast.

It was not the first moment of eye-popping controversy that Cyrus provided. Kicking off the entire show with a short version of “We Can’t Stop,” she unveiled her dance partner to be a dwarf/little person in a gimp costume. Both of them playfully smacked each other on the ass in a bizarre scene which was more than a little reminiscent of this summer’s VMAs at Barclays Center. The main difference was that the dwarf/little person was better dressed than Robin Thicke.

Causing controversy has fast become a Cyrus speciality, but the girl from Nashville took a moment out to show the world she can still sing too. Her powerful rendition of “Wrecking Ball” was note perfect and one of the musical highlights of the night.

Other notable performances came from Katy Perry who sang “Unconditional” while suspended from the venue ceiling, as her mirrored dress reflected the many spotlights to create a dazzling effect. Bruno Mars sang his current single “Gorilla” with the aid of an on-stage pole dancer and Kings Of Leon ran through their slow-burning track “Beautiful War” with the aid of a backdrop of fireworks.

Eminem also performed furiously fast versions of “Berzerk” and “Rap God” before receiving a Global Icon Award which was presented to him by “Anchorman” Ron Burgundy.
