Ham I doin’? Colbert on stump

It’s come to this: late-night comedian Stephen Colbert was out on the campaign trail yesterday buying votes — for his sister’s congressional campaign — with biscuits.

The older sister of the host of Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report” — Elizabeth Colbert Busch — is running for the House of Representatives in a special election next month in South Carolina.

Colbert spent the weekend with her, campaigning and raising an undisclosed amount at three fund-raisers — including a $5,200-a-plate dinner on the Upper West Side and a bowling party Saturday in Charleston, S.C.

Yesterday morning, brother and sister hosted a “meet ‘n’ greet” in South Carolina where they handed out ham-and-biscuit sandwiches and rallied voters.

Colbert says he is campaigning for Elizabeth despite her Democratic Party loyalties, because he owed her a debt from when they were little.

“When I tried to attack my brother Jay with a ball-peen hammer,” he told the breakfast, “she took my side.”
