POST’S PUSH PURIFIES H2O AT SARATOGA

State officials announced yesterday that as a result of an exposé in The Post, they would begin restoring the purity of the famed, state-owned Saratoga Springs mineral baths, which had been adulterated – without public notice – for some two decades.

State Parks and Recreation Commissioner Carol Ash said a $450,000 capital-improvement program at the Saratoga Spa State Park would allow for the restoration of four of the historic mineral baths.

As a result, thousands of patrons – who pay $20 each for the experience – will be able to bathe in pure mineral waters, not in a mix to which chlorinated local tap water has been secretly added.

“The famed baths of Saratoga have played an important part in this region’s rich history,” said Ash, who credited The Post report for prompting the state’s announcement.

The Post revealed last March that the state had deceived tens of thousands of patrons at the Saratoga Spa State Park by secretly mixing standard chlorinated drinking water into supposedly pure – and health-promoting – natural mineral spring baths.
