Sent off at 1-5, Big Truck was able to run down Spanky Fischbein in deep stretch and win the $104,300 Bertram F. Bongard for New York-bred two-year-olds by two lengths. The Barclay Tagg-trainee by Hook and Ladder was ridden to victory by Ramon Dominguez and ran the seven furlongs in 1:23.64. He is expected to race next in the Sleepy Hollow on New York Showcase Day on Oct. 20.

Expect the End was pressured throughout by Meriwether Jessica and was able to hold on to win the $108,500 Joseph A. Gimma for New York-bred two-year-old fillies by a nose. The Richard Dutrow-trainee by Precise End was ridden to victory by Rafael Bejarano and ran the seven furlongs in 1:24.31.

* Yesterday, Ed Fountaine wrote about the non-disqualification of Be Bullish in Saturday’s sixth race. After reviewing the tapes with the jockeys yesterday, the stewards suspended Kent Desormeaux seven days for careless riding aboard Be Bullish. He has appealed the suspension and a stay has been granted.

1ST RACE – Desormeaux wasted no time getting back into the winner’s circle as he got Wallstreet Scandal to come off the pace for the victory. He was aided by River Mountain Rd and Sir Jackie bumping each other and affecting each other’s momentum in the stretch drive.

4TH RACE – As the field raced around the far turn, Javier Castellano aboard League of Nations tried to raceride favored Bold Hawk, keeping him inside and behind a wall of horses. But the veteran Jean-Luc Samyn aboard Bold Hawk would not get trapped, forcing his way to the outside for clear racing room while turning for home. Bold Hawk then ran down Oedipus ONeal for the victory.

6TH RACE – As the field awaited the start, both 46-1 Wind in the Forest and 26-1 Duchess of Rokeby broke through the gate. After being checked out by the vet, both were allowed to run. Wind in the Forest showed nothing, but Duchess of Rokeby got caught in traffic on the backstretch and was still able to close to finish third. She is one to watch.

7TH RACE – In Saturday’s 11th race, Desormeaux had his mount Hammock race wide when turning for home but then draw away for the victory. Here, Desormeaux used the same tactics, having Giveityourbestshot enter the stretch while extremely wide and drawing away for the victory, the third of the afternoon for Desormeaux.
