Running back Mike Goodson returned to the Jets yesterday … and was suspended by the NFL for the team’s first four games.
Goodson violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy and is not eligible to return to the Jets’ active roster until Sept. 30, following the team’s game with the Titans. He missed all of training camp due to “personal reasons,” and was been placed on the active/non-football injury/illness list after his return.
Goodson, who the Jets signed to a three-year, $6.9 million deal in March, was arrested in May on drug and weapons charges after being found passed out drunk in a stopped car on Route 80.
“I’ve been away from the team to take care of some important personal things,” Goodson said in a statement. “The time was helpful to me and now that I am back, I am going to do everything I can to contribute to the team. I appreciate all of the support from the Jets organization and I’m thankful to be back with my teammates.”
Goodson will be permitted to attend meetings and work out by himself at the team’s facility, but he cannot practice with the team.
“While we welcome Mike back to the organization, we have had direct conversations to make our expectations very clear as we work together to help him move forward in a positive manner, both on and off the field,” the Jets said in a statement.
