TAKING A HOLIDAY FROM THE JOB HUNT

He turned his pink slip into a boarding pass.

Laid off just in time for the holidays, David Speyer knew his job prospects would be dismal until the spring. So, he decided to take a vacation.

The 25-year-old former portfolio manager at JPMorgan – one of five laid-off employees The Post is following in their quest to find jobs – said he decided to head the same direction as the economy: south.

“I’ve always wanted to go to South America, so I figured rather than sit here and wait for things to change, I’d take off for a couple of months,” he said.

Other job hunters also say they are going to enjoy the holidays and then start pounding the pavement in the New Year.

“The job search pretty much shut down two weeks before Christmas, so I am going to try to relax with my family and unwind. Next week, I will hit the ground again,” said Ramon Suazo, 37, a former executive at HSBC Securities.

Hilary Bauer, 26, an out-of-work lawyer, said she was not expecting much movement until after the holidays.

“I just had a great interview with a large insurance firm and I am keeping my fingers crossed,” she said.

“But right now, I am going to enjoy the holidays with my parents in New Jersey.”
