PUTTIN’ PUTIN IN HIS PLACE

Once again, Ralph Peters hits the mark (“The Putin Plan To Sucker America,” PostOpinion, Feb. 25).

Since the days of Ivan III, Russia has sought to expand its empire.

In the 1980s, America committed the unforgivable – we forced the collapse of those aspirations but not the end of the dream.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s course should be clear to anyone willing to drop the politically correct notion that all people think like the liberal left.

His aim is to reconstitute the Russian Empire (the USSR, if you will) and to do so by any means available.

Putin is Machiavelli writ large, and we ignore this fact at our peril.

Peters should be at the top of everyone’s reading list.

The best way to defeat the Islamists is to withdraw militarily from Iraq and Afghanistan. All the various tribes and sects will then fall on and decimate each other rather than bleed and bankrupt us into collapse.

The whole mess will then become Russia’s problem to deal with.

The Americans don’t know how to play the game.

President Obama’s talk of not installing a missile-defense system in Poland shows us where our country is heading.

This man thinks he can outsmart the Russians and talk Iran out of a nuclear weapon.

I hope he can, but most of us know that he can’t.
