Mayweather sorry for picture mocking De La Hoya

Floyd Mayweather has apologized for a photo posted on his Instagram account that mocked Oscar De La Hoya for his substance-abuse problem.

In the aftermath of Mayweather’s dominant victory over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night, a photo popped up on Mayweather’s Instagram account of De La Hoya with the message: “I gave Canelo the wrong Blueprint I was high.”

De La Hoya checked himself into rehab last week, forcing him to miss the highly anticipated showdown in Las Vegas organized by his company, Golden Boy Promotions. In a follow-up Instagram post, Mayweather claimed he did not post the image himself and had no knowledge of it going up.

“It’s unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post,” Mayweather said.

“I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting. I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post.”

Mayweather and De La Hoya have feuded and traded barbs in the past. They fought in 2007, with Mayweather winning in a split decision. But Mayweather reiterated he wished De La Hoya well.

“Although we had our difference in the past, I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction,” Mayweather’s statement read.
