Lazio will run for gov

Rick Lazio, the former Long Island congressman who ran against Hillary Rodham Clinton for the US Senate in 2000, will formally declare he’s a candidate for governor — potentially putting him on a primary collision course with Rudy Giuliani.

The announcement is set for Sept. 21 in Albany.

Lazio, now on leave from his job at JPMorgan Chase, had amassed $250,000 in his campaign coffers as of his last filing.

Giuliani is seriously contemplating a run for governor, several sources say.
