Girls basketball roundup: Jefferson, Midwood escape shocking upsets

Alicia Cropper had 23 points to lead Thomas Jefferson to a 41-40 home win against Lincoln in PSAL Brooklyn AA girls basketball Monday.

Sharice Hester had eight points and Danielle Pearson added six for the Orange Wave (11-2 Brooklyn AA Group 2). Erica Juarbe had 12 points and 19 points and Shaquella Figueroa added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Lincoln (6-7 Brooklyn AA Group 1).

Midwood 51, Banneker 50: Jewel Tunstull had 15 points and Brittney McFadden had 13 points for Midwood (10-2 Brooklyn AA Group 1). Banneker is 7-6 in Brooklyn AA Group 2.

CHSAA STATEN ISLAND

St. Peter’s 81, St. Joseph Hill 45: Ashley Motrechuk had 12 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and five blocks for St. Peters (16-1, 6-0 SI) in CHSAA Staten Island. Catherine Lewis scored 16 points, Jamie O’Hare had 14 and Christine Kline added 15 points and five steals. Keelan Smith scored 20 points and Kelsey Carey had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Hilltoppers (10-8, 4-3). Katie Scarangello added 11 points of the bench.

PSAL STATEN ISLAND A

McKee/Staten Island Tech 57, Petrides 39: Kaitlyn Astel had 14 points, Kristen Markoe had 13 points and Dominique Mitchell added 11 for MSIT (13-0 Staten Island A). Petrides is 6-7.

Susan Wagner 47, CSI/McCown 30: Chelsea Traverso had 25 points and Adrienne Perea added 11 for Wagner (5-8 Staten Island A). CSI is 1-12.

PSAL CLASS A

Gompers 43, Bronx Leadership 33: Amanda Guareno had 18 points and Aaliyah Mercer had 14 points for Gompers (7-10 Bronx A). Bronx Leadership is 6-11.

Morrisania 64, South Bronx Prep: Ogechukwu Uwanaka had 36 points and Shanice Williams added 13 points for Morrisania (9-5 Bronx B West). South Bronx Prep is 4-11 in Bronx B East.

Morris 42, Riverdale/Kingsbridge 41: Tiara Brown had 18 points to lead Morris (9-6 Bronx B East). Nelyssa Rosario had 23 points for RKA (7-6 Bronx B West).

EBC/Bushwick Leaders 59, Campos 35: Ranisha Venzen had 30 points and Jasmine Williams and Kimberly Nazario each had 13 for EBC/Bushwick (8-4 Brooklyn B2 East). Campos is 1-12.

Franklin K. Lane 40, Bushwick 32: Lekeisha Prescott had 17 points and Sharon Fordyce had 12 points for Lane (12-1 Brooklyn B2 East). Bushwick is 10-3.

Clara Barton 50, SSLJR 40: Jigcara Grant had 17 points and Andrea Edwards had 14 points for Clara Barton (8-7 Brooklyn B North). SSLJR is 9-6.
