MINEOLA, N.Y. — Prosecutors say a Long Island woman arrested in a crash after driving the wrong way down the Long Island Expressway had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit.
Katelyn O’Connell of Westbury was arraigned Wednesday in her hospital bed on charges of drunken driving, reckless endangerment and assault. Prosecutors say she had a 0.17 blood-alcohol reading; the legal limit is 0.08.
Bail was set at $5,000. Her attorney declined comment.
Police say O’Connell was driving westbound in the LIE’s eastbound lanes at about 5 a.m. Tuesday when her car crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man. He suffered a broken ankle.
The crash closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for nearly six hours.
