GET CRACKING: City kids are sure to appreciate “Nutcracker in the Lower,” Urban Ballet Theater’s update of the Tchaikovsky classic. Not only are there plenty of multicultural tweaks (a fiesta instead of a fancy ball, for example), the battle scene with the giant mice is very appropriately set in a subway station. 3 and 7:30 p.m., $20. Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand St., at Pitt Street; 212-598-0400.

SEASON’S GREETINGS: Don’t wait until the last minute to send cards out this year. Get a head start at the Scholastic Store’s “Holiday Cards Galore,” where kids can spend all day making their own merry missives. Materials will be provided. Free, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 557 Broadway, between Prince and Spring streets; 212-343-6166.

Tomorrow

WANNA RHETT? Ace songwriter Rhett Miller usually sings for grown-ups as frontman for the Old 97’s and a solo artist with three fine records under his belt. Today, he entertains an all-ages crowd at the first Brooklyn installment of the popular Kidrockers series. The folk-gospel combo Spirit Family Reunion shares the bill, and comedian Seth Herzog hosts. 1 to 2:30 p.m. $12 in advance, $15 at the door. The Rock Shop, 249 Fourth Ave., at Carroll Street; 718-230-5740.

Still to come

COLD COMFORT: Give a little, get a lot at the annual Winter’s Eve Festival at Lincoln Square. Bring canned food donations for City Harvest, which will provide live music by Twin Shadow and the Beets, and free cupcakes for all. Monday, 5:30 to 9 p.m., free. Broadway from Columbus Circle to 68th Street; 212-581-7762.
