Jaguars coach blasts refs for penalty

The Jaguars were fuming about an offensive pass interference penalty that proved crucial in their 24-20 loss to the Giants yesterday.

Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio and quarterback David Garrard both blasted the fourth-quarter call on wideout Kassim Osgood that wiped out a 23-yard reception by Mike Thomas with the Jaguars clinging to a 20-17 lead.

Instead of having the ball at midfield with one of the league’s best kickers in Josh Scobee, Jacksonville was pushed back to its 16-yard line and had to punt four plays later.

Del Rio insisted the block was legal because Osgood began it at the line of scrimmage and said he planned to call the NFL today to get a clarification.

“Either I misunderstand the rule or the official did, but one of us is wrong,” Del Rio said. “Maybe it’s me.”
