Bronx man stole millions from Columbia: DA

A Bronx man was nabbed by Manhattan District Attorney’s Office investigators for allegedly swiping millions from Columbia University, according to a criminal complaint.

George Castro is described in the complaint as “familiar with the university’s accounts payable system.”

Castor allegedly modified a university account and added at TD Bank account to it as a payee, DA investigators said. The TD Bank account received over $3.4 million in funds from Columbia University accounts in October and $1 million in November.

The money was then withdrawn in cash from the new account, according to the complaint. Castro was listed as the only person on that account.

Last Wednesday, Castro was caught with $200,000 in cash, according to the complaint.

He allegedly told investigators from the DA’s office that the money just appeared in his account and got greedy. He added that he bought a car with money. An Audi worth more than $80,000 was seized at the suspect’s Bronx residence, investigators in the DA’s office said.
