WASHINGTON — The other shoe dropped yesterday for President Obama’s signature health-care overhaul.
Senate Republicans introduced a repeal bill that could go to a vote as early as this week.
Their aggressive push for repeal came a day after a federal judge in Florida ruled that the law’s “individual mandate” — the central feature of ObamaCare that forces every American to buy health insurance by 2014 — is unconstitutional.
The president now finds himself defending his premier legislative accomplishment on two fronts: in Congress and in the courts, with the law likely headed to a Supreme Court showdown.
The House passed the repeal bill last month.
“For all those who supported the health law, it’s an opportunity to re-evaluate your vote,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) urged on the Senate floor.
Senate Democrats vowed to quickly defeat the amendment.
“If one robin doesn’t make a spring, then one Florida judge doesn’t make a repeal,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said.
