Plunk down on Dunk City & Duke

WASHINGTON — Disclaimer: Lenn Robbins disagrees with two of these three picks.

Florida Gulf Coast (+13) over Florida: You don’t really have a choice here. I mean, you could go against the Eagles. You could also club baby seals. FGCU’s run likely comes to an end tonight, but enjoy the alley oops one more time. The high-flying offense should at least approach their average of 73 points, more than enough to keep you from jumping off the hottest, most confident team in the country outside of Louisville. Besides, when in doubt, side with the coach with the supermodel wife.

Michigan (+2) over Kansas: Your Post consensus pick. If it weren’t for Gonzaga, Kansas would have registered as the least impressive No. 1 seed. Center Jeff Withey will cause problems inside against the undersized Wolverines, but Kansas’ inconsistent offense will not be able to keep pace with Michigan’s efficient attack. Trey Burke looks like a Player of the Year candidate once again, while Jayhawks freshman Ben McLemore, a future lottery pick, has been alarmingly passive in the NCAA Tournament. It won’t hurt his draft stock, but it will end Kansas’ season.

Duke (-2) over Michigan St.: I never go against Tom Izzo on the first weekend. After that, it’s fine. The Blue Devils have played their best when playing the nation’s best this season, taking down Louisville, Ohio State and Miami. The Spartans will finish ahead on boards and behind on points.
