Devils’ Henrique voted as finalist for Calder Trophy

Devils center Adam Henrique has been voted one of three finalists for the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year.

Henrique, Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog and Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins were the three top vote-getters in Professional Hockey Writers Assn. balloting.

Henrique didn’t make the Devils out of training camp, but quickly joined the team and proved a worthy replacement for Travis Zajac, who missed 67 games from summertime Achilles tendon surgery.

Henrique, 22, was the Devils’ third-round pick in 2008, and was named the NHL’s top rookie for December. He finished third among the frosh in scoring with 51 points and led rooks with 35 assists, playing mainly between Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk.

His 51 points represent the fourth-highest rookie total in Devils history. He led all rookies with four shorthanded goals, and had the longest rookie point streak at seven games.

The winner will be announced June 20.
