Cabby hits two children

A yellow-cab driver struck two children on Central Park South yesterday — and then allegedly tore off before turning himself in nearly eight hours later.

The victims, girls 7 and 9, were walking across a vehicular entrance to the park when the cab backed into them at about 11:30 a.m.

The unidentified girls, part of a group of kids with the Goodwill camp run out of Beacon PS 149 in Jackson Heights, Queens, were treated at New York Hospital for minor injuries and released.

The driver, Emanuel Kantanka, 40, of New Jersey, was given a desk-appearance ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.

The kids were walking with about two dozen others when the cab made a left turn toward them, witnesses said.

A camp staffer screamed at the cabby to stop, and he did — then oddly backed up into the girls, witnesses said.

The taxi’s passenger jumped out and was heard saying to the driver, “I’m sorry, I’m not paying $7 for no reason,” and then stormed off.

Kantanka got out of his cab to see if the girls were OK, and when they appeared unhurt, he left, a witness said.

Cops were hunting all day for the cabby until he finally turned himself in at the Midtown North Precinct station house at around 6:30 p.m.
