Man killed in cop crash hailed

A Bronx man killed trying to flee cops on a dirt bike was a building super who encouraged neighborhood kids to stay out of trouble, his family said yesterday.

Eddie Fernandez, 28, died when his bike was accidentally rear-ended by a police car in Hunts Point, law-enforcement sources said.

His pal Adalberto “Adam” Gonzalez — who was on the back — suffered minor scrapes and was taken into custody, the sources said.

“[Eddie] tried to teach kids to stay out of trouble with carpentry and painting. He was a good kid,’’ said his cousin José Lopez.

Cops on Saturday saw Gonzalez riding his own bike the wrong way down a one-way street but did not pursue him. A few minutes later, the cops spotted Gonzalez on his bike again, and as they approached on foot, he allegedly hopped off and ran to a bike Fernandez was driving, yelling, “Move! Move! Police is comin’!”

Fernandez drove off with Gonzalez on his bike. Less than a block away, the pursuing patrol car struck them, killing Fernandez.
