Showdown at Saratoga

In this summer’s Saratoga Showdown, The Post’s pony pickers, John DaSilva, Ed Fountaine, Vic Cangialosi and Anthony Affrunti, square off every day of the meet.

Each starts with a bankroll of $2,000, with a maximum bet of $50 per day. May the best bettor win!

JOHN DaSILVA

TODAY’S PLAY: In the ninth race, Take Down Two seeks his third consecutive victory in first off the claim. Play a $10 exacta box of Take Down Two with Gentlemen’s Bet and Regal Strike. Then play a $5 exacta box of Take Down Two with Seeker. Total bet: $50.

MONDAY’S RESULTS: Key horse Basalt was very disappointing and finished off the board. After scratches, we lost of $30 on the day.

VIC CANGIALOSI

TODAY’S PLAY: Halfway done and the road to respectability starts right here. In the opener, play $20 to win on Catalina Island. Then $30 to win on Wild Target in the third. Total bet: $50.

MONDAY’S RESULTS:
Alydarla, 8-1, had perfect trip and looked great early. She was then passed by four fillies in the stretch to finish seventh. Bridge Loan scratched so we saved $40. Lost only $10.

ED FOUNTAINE

TODAY’S PLAY: Time to get smart: In the fifth race, the Troy, $30 to win, $20 to place on Artest. Total bet: $50.

MONDAY’S RESULTS: Missed it by that much: In the third race, Roaring Conquest ($20 win, $10 place) ran third at 7-2; in the ninth, Kiss in the Forest ($20 win) ran second at 9-1. Lost $50.

BANKROLL: $1,791.50

ANTHONY AFFRUNTI

TODAY’S PLAY: Going to make one play today with all $50 to win on Bridgetown in the fifth race. He won this race going away last year over a yielding course and is 3-for-4 over this track. Total bet: $50.

MONDAY’S RESULTS: Got nothing on both wagers as Monday lived up to its usual billing. The exacta in the first with Basalt and A Boy Named Em missed terribly as did the win bet in the fourth with Petey Cramer. Full speed ahead. Lost $50.
