Back from the Grave

Gravesend, Brooklyn is living up to its spooky name.

A young ghost bride wreaked havoc on Elaine Mercado and her family while they were living in a Queen Anne-style home near Avenue V.

They would hear their names whispered in a menacing voice, suffered suffocating dreams, saw shadows of a bride and even had blankets thrown from their beds.

An episode of “Paranormal Witness” on Syfy tonight tells the story.

“It started when my daughters found a really tiny dress in the attic,” Mercado, a retired ER nurse from Coney Island Hospital, tells The Post.

“It was maybe a size 2, but short. It creeped me out completely. They brought it down wrapped in newspaper from the 1950s, and I said get rid of it.”

A neighbor confirmed that a young bride mysteriously died in the attic of the home.

“In old-time Brooklyn, when people got married, they came out on their stoop [and] people threw rice at them. He remembered seeing her and thinking she was very pretty,” Mercado says. “He said nobody really knew why she died.”

At the end of the show, Mercado calls in a medium, who got rid of the ghostly guest for good.
