Jets contact Olympic sprinter

CORTLAND — Many people feel the Jets have a need to add some speed. Well, they’re trying.

The team has contacted Olympic sprinter turned NFL hopeful Jeff Demps, according to his agent.

Daniel Rose, the agent, said he has talked to every team in the NFL about Demps, but there are eight who are “very, very, very interested.” Rose declined to specify whether the Jets are among those teams.

Demps won a silver medal in the 4×100 relay in the London Olympics. The 22-year-old played football at the University of Florida and was a teammate of Jets quarterback Tim Tebow. He went undrafted in April after informing teams he was concentrating on track and field.

Demps was a running back at Florida. He rushed for 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also returned kickoffs.

Rose said he expects Demps to be in an NFL training camp by Monday.
