Red Sox manager Valentine ejected against Royals

BOSTON — Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals for arguing a call at first base.

Dustin Pedroia hit a grounder that Royals third baseman Tony Abreu bobbled before throwing to first. Replays showed that Pedroia beat the throw, but first base umpire Dan Bellino called him out.

Valentine was out of the dugout quickly, arguing strenuously for only a minute or so before he was tossed.

It was his fifth ejection of the season and the 42nd of his career, including one time with the New York Mets in 1999 when he famously returned to the dugout wearing a fake mustache and sunglasses. Major League Baseball suspended him for three games and fined him $5,000.
