Just as he settles into ‘AGT,’ Stern provoked

Just as Howard Stern figured out how to play well with others on “America’s Got Talent,” he’s got NBC’s suits up his butt telling him how to play well with others.

Or how to play well with others on the NBC team, at least.

Stern said on radio that one NBC suit “threatened” him about his radio rants against Jay Leno.

They’re mad just because he called Leno a “back-stabbing scum bag, spineless maggot”?

He’s said worse to Howie Mandel — on TV, yet!

Hey, Leno’s a big boy who can take care of himself.

But the thing is? I finally like Howard on “AGT.”

Yes, he made me want to throw a truck through the TV for the first several weeks. It was all about him — not about the talent. If we wanted a Stern network TV show, believe me, we would have had one by now.

But whether Stern listened to critics or just wised up by himself, he’s finally doing what he was hired to do — be smart, funny and be a judge of other’s talent, not crow about his own.

OK, maybe I like him now because he laughed as hard at balls boy as I did.

Or maybe it’s because I think he secretly hates that Mariachi kid as much as I do.

And BTW? That kid’s still like the annoying mariachi guy you dread in Mexican restaurants — so why is everyone so smitten?

Anyway, I like that Stern has developed a better rapport with Mandel and Sharon Osbourne now that’s he’s figured out how to stop being mad at everyone.

Except at Leno, I mean.
